Tottenham Hotspur has firmly turned down Bayern Munich's third bid of £86 million for their star striker, Harry Kane. The decision leaves Bayern Munich at a crossroads, contemplating whether to persist in their pursuit of the coveted English striker.
The latest offer, which stood at £86 million, failed to sway Daniel Levy, the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur. With Kane's contract set to expire next summer, Bayern must now decide whether to enhance their proposal or admit defeat in their negotiations with Levy. The situation poses a significant challenge for the German champions, who are striving to find a worthy replacement for Robert Lewandowski following his move to Barcelona the previous summer.
Thomas Tuchel, Bayern Munich's head coach, is eager to secure a striker capable of filling Lewandowski's void, underscoring the importance of acquiring Kane. Although Bayern had previously indicated that their third bid was their final offer, internal discussions are underway to determine if they should reconsider their approach.
As the season's kick-off approaches, Kane is seeking clarity on his future before Tottenham faces Brentford. Despite the club's efforts to retain him, Kane's hesitance to sign a contract extension has raised concerns. This hesitation places Tottenham at risk of losing their all-time leading goalscorer on a free transfer next summer.
Tottenham's stance on the potential transfer provides Levy with an opportunity to capitalize on Kane's value and prevent him from moving to another Premier League team without a transfer fee. Notably, Manchester United expressed interest in Kane before securing Rasmus Højlund from Atalanta.
Remaining at Tottenham would mean a season without European football for Kane. However, the appointment of new head coach Ange Postecoglou offers a chance for a fresh start. Spurs are also active in the transfer market, with the imminent acquisition of Dutch center-back Micky van de Ven from Wolfsburg and Argentinian striker Alejo Véliz from Rosario Central. The club has already secured signings like James Maddison, Manor Solomon, Ashley Phillips, and Guglielmo Vicario in preparation for the upcoming season.
