Apple Set to Launch Affordable AI-Powered Smartphone Targeting Galaxy and Huawei

New iPhone SE 4 to Compete in Mid-Range Market with Advanced Features / Reuters

Apple is preparing to launch the fourth generation of its budget-friendly iPhone SE model, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities to better compete against Samsung and Huawei, which currently hold significant market share in the mid-range smartphone segment. This strategic move aims to enhance Apple's position across various price points in the smartphone market.

The upcoming iPhone SE 4 is expected to incorporate advanced AI features, building on the current model, which was introduced in 2022 and retails at $429. Analysts predict that the new version will be priced slightly higher than its predecessor but will remain more affordable than the recently released iPhone 16, which starts at $799.

According to a report by Counterpoint Research, if the iPhone SE 4 delivers significant upgrades in design, performance, and AI functionality, it could effectively bolster Apple's market presence in a diverse range of price categories. The company recently presented a strong sales growth forecast during its earnings report, indicating plans to expand AI capabilities across more regions and languages in the coming months, aiming to counteract a slowdown in revenue growth observed since last year.

However, industry experts remain cautious about the potential sales increase, noting that Apple's AI features will gradually be integrated into the iPhone 16 lineup and the iPhone 15 Pro models. Counterpoint Research highlights a dramatic decline in the iPhone SE model's contribution to overall iPhone sales, which plummeted from 10% shortly after its 2016 launch to just 1% last year.

The anticipated update for the iPhone SE 4 includes a revamped slab design, the removal of the physical home button, and the introduction of Face ID functionality. Enhancements to the camera and processor will also be implemented to support the new AI features. In addition, Apple previously ceased sales of the SE and iPhone 14 in the European Union (EU) due to the products not complying with local laws mandating USB Type-C charging standards. The latest iteration of the SE is expected to adopt the USB Type-C port, allowing for renewed sales opportunities within the EU market.
