G Herbo to Plead Guilty in Federal Fraud Case, Facing Up to 20 Years in Prison
Renowned rapper G Herbo has reached an agreement to plead guilty in a federal fraud case in Massachusetts. According to reports from The Chicago Tribune and The Republican, the artist will admit to conspiracy to commit wire fraud and making a false statement to a federal official. The plea deal includes the dismissal of two charges related to aggravated identity theft. The court appearance for the guilty plea is scheduled for later this month, and if convicted, G Herbo could face a maximum sentence of 20 years behind bars.
The news of G Herbo's legal predicament emerged in 2020 when he, along with five other individuals, was indicted by a federal grand jury. The indictment alleged their involvement in a fraudulent scheme where they used stolen payment and credit card information to finance lavish expenses, including private jet charters, exotic car rentals, and even designer puppies.
Initially maintaining his innocence, G Herbo's management team stated that the rapper would vigorously defend himself in court. He even released a song titled "Statement" to further assert his innocence. However, the situation took a turn when the artist was later charged with making a false statement to a federal official.
Throughout the legal process, G Herbo continued to focus on his music career, releasing albums like "25" and "Survivor's Remorse." However, recent events have put a strain on his personal life as well. The musician was recently arrested in Chicago on charges of unlawful weapon use after a police traffic stop.
Pitchfork has attempted to reach out to G Herbo's attorney, James W. Lawson, for a comment regarding the plea agreement, but there has been no response as of yet.
With the rapper's guilty plea looming, fans and the music industry eagerly await the outcome of this high-profile case, which could significantly impact G Herbo's future career prospects.
